What AI can do
The tasks an AI assistant can do on your site through Urmi, with example prompts that work well.
On this page
A connected AI app gets a set of tools for your site. With them it can read what is there, build and change pages, restyle the whole site, set up headers, footers and popups, and tidy up content. This page describes the tools in plain words and shows prompts that get good results.
What an app may actually do depends on the permissions of its key or connection (Read, Content, Design, Site) and on the WordPress role of the user. See API keys & scopes. Whatever the role, an AI works on content and design only: see What AI cannot do.
Understand your site
Before changing anything, a good AI assistant looks around. It can:
- get an overview of the site: pages, menus, theme templates and where they appear, popups, the Design System and your permissions
- read site settings such as the title, tagline, home page, logo and language, so its work fits your site
- list and read pages, posts, templates, menus, media and content types
- read Urmi's build guide, the list of widgets with their settings, the dynamic data it can use, and search icons and Google Fonts
"Look at my site and tell me which pages exist, which header and footer are live and what the brand colors are."
Build and edit pages
- create pages and posts from widgets and containers, or from Urmi's 40 ready-made section patterns (heroes, features, pricing, FAQ, contact and more), rewritten for your business
- make precise edits: change a heading, swap an image, add a section, move or delete elements, without touching the rest of the page
- duplicate a page or publish a draft
- read back the finished page as text to proofread it, and check it for accessibility, SEO and mobile problems with fix hints
"Create a draft Services page with a hero, the four services from the home page as cards with icons, a short FAQ and a call to action to book a consultation."
"On the About page, replace the team photos with the new ones in the media library and make the headline shorter."
Change the look of the whole site
- change the Design System: brand colors, fonts, text styles, buttons, container width and spacing. Every page updates at once.
- get a contrast report for text and button colors
- go back to the previous Design System if you do not like the result
"Use a deep green (#1F3A2E) as the primary color and terracotta (#B5623C) as the accent, Fraunces for headings and DM Sans for text. Check that button text has enough contrast."
Headers, footers, layouts and popups
- create headers, footers, blog post and archive layouts, 404 pages, search results, loop items for post grids, reusable sections and mega menus
- create popups with their layout, triggers (page load, scroll, exit intent, click…), frequency and devices
- decide where each template appears with display conditions, and see which template is used where

"Design a sticky header with the logo on the left, the main menu in the middle and a Book a consultation button on the right. Show it on the whole site."
"Add a newsletter popup that slides in from the bottom right after the visitor scrolls halfway, at most once a week, only for visitors who are not logged in."
Menus, media and blog content
- create menus, replace their items, assign them to menu locations and attach mega menus
- upload images from a web address, write alt text, and create simple placeholder images or a text logo. A new logo goes into the media library and does not replace your site logo: the AI (or you) shows it in your header with the Site Logo widget set to Custom image.
- search openly licensed photos on Openverse and import them with their credit (when Image search is on in Server settings)
- write blog posts, set categories and tags, and set featured images
"Write a 600-word blog post about choosing paint colors for north-facing rooms, in the style of our other posts, as a draft in the Journal category."
SEO and housekeeping
- set SEO titles and meta descriptions (saved in your SEO plugin if you use one)
- find and replace text, links or colors across every page, with a preview first
- regenerate Urmi's CSS and clear the cache of common caching plugins, for users who may change the theme (administrators, by default)
- read recent form submissions (they contain visitors' personal data, so the AI only summarizes what you ask for)
"Our phone number changed to +1 503 555 0199. Find the old number everywhere and replace it, but show me the list first."
Undo
The AI can undo its own last change, or restore an earlier saved version of a page. You can do the same from the activity log.
"That's not what I wanted. Undo your last change to the home page."
Ready-made prompts
Urmi also offers four ready-made prompts. Apps that support MCP prompts list them, for example in a menu next to the chat box:
| Prompt | What it does |
|---|---|
| Build a complete website | Design System, header, footer, core pages and navigation for a business. You describe the business, and optionally the pages and the style. |
| Create a landing page | A focused page for one offer, with an audience and a main action. |
| Redesign an existing page | Improves the structure, hierarchy and visuals of a page while keeping its content. |
| Audit and fix a page | Runs the accessibility, SEO and layout checks and fixes what they find. |
What AI cannot do
An AI works on your content and design. It can never:
- install, activate, update or edit plugins or themes
- create, change or delete users
- run WordPress updates or edit files on the server
- change WordPress or Urmi settings, such as the site title, the home page, maintenance mode, roles, cookie consent or AI settings
- add code, such as scripts or unfiltered HTML
- delete pages, posts, templates or files from the media library
- see API keys and passwords
This holds even for an administrator's connection: while an AI tool runs, Urmi takes these administrative rights away from the connected user. Everything an AI writes is filtered like content from a user who may not post unfiltered HTML. See Security & privacy.
Tips for good results
- Start with "Read the Urmi build guide". The Connect a client tab suggests it for a reason: the guide teaches the AI how Urmi pages are built, so the first result is better.
- Describe the business, the audience and the style. "A calm, warm interior design studio for young families" gives better pages than "a nice website".
- Give real content. Paste your texts, prices and opening hours. Otherwise the AI writes placeholder copy you have to replace.
- Name pages and sections the way they appear. "The FAQ section on the Contact page" is clearer than "the questions".
- Ask for drafts. New pages are drafts by default. Review them in the editor, then publish.
- Work in steps on big sites. Design System first, then header and footer, then one page at a time.
- Ask for a check at the end. "Audit the page and fix accessibility problems" catches missing alt text, low contrast and heading mistakes.
