General

Is Urmi free?

Yes. Urmi is free and open source (GPL). There is no account to create and no tracking. Optional AI features use your own AI accounts and keys, which you pay to those services directly.

What do I need to run it?

WordPress 6.6 or newer and PHP 8.0 or newer, and a current browser for editing. See Installation & requirements.

Does it work with my theme?

Yes, Urmi works with any theme. Its pages use your theme's header and footer until you build your own in the Theme Builder. For pages without the theme's header and footer, use the page template Urmi Canvas (no header/footer).

Do I need to know how to code?

No. You build pages by dragging widgets onto the canvas and changing settings. Colors, fonts, spacing, hover states, animations and responsive changes are all settings, so you never have to write code. See Key concepts.

Can I still use the WordPress block editor?

Yes, page by page. Pages you build with Urmi open in Urmi; all other pages keep using the block editor or the classic editor. You choose which content types can use Urmi in General settings, and you can hand a page back with Switch back to the WordPress editor.

What happens if I deactivate Urmi?

Nothing is deleted. Pages built with Urmi show a plain version of their text and images, without the design, and the design comes back as soon as you activate Urmi again. Deleting the plugin also keeps your data, unless you turned on Remove all data on uninstall. See Advanced.

Can I move my site from Elementor?

Yes. Settings → Import & export → Import from Elementor rebuilds Elementor pages and templates as Urmi designs and can bring over Elementor's global colors and fonts. Elementor's data is left untouched. See Import from Elementor.

AI

Do I need AI to use Urmi?

No. Everything works by hand. AI is optional.

Do I need an API key to connect Claude or ChatGPT?

No key from Anthropic or OpenAI is needed in WordPress. The AI app works with your own Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor account and connects to your site over MCP. For apps without sign-in, you create an Urmi API key on your site. See AI & MCP overview.

The AI buttons inside the editor are different: AI writing and AI images use the AI provider set up in WordPress under Settings → Connectors (WordPress 7.0 or newer). Urmi has no AI key fields of its own.

Can an AI break my site?

It can only do what you allow. The MCP server is off until an administrator turns it on. Each connection acts as a WordPress user with the permissions you choose, and it can never manage plugins, themes, users or site settings, add code, or delete pages. Changes to pages, templates and the Design System can be undone from the activity log, and one switch turns all AI access off. See Security & privacy.

Does my content go to the AI company?

Only when you use AI. A connected AI app reads the parts of your site it needs for your request and sends them to its provider as part of your conversation. AI writing sends the text of one field when you click an AI action. See What data goes where.

Speed and SEO

Does Urmi slow down my site?

Urmi loads only the styles and scripts of the widgets a page uses, loads images lazily, and loads videos and maps only when they are needed. See Performance.

Does it work with caching plugins?

Yes. After changing the Design System or a template, clear your cache. See Caching plugins.

What about SEO?

Urmi pages use real HTML headings, links and image alt text. Urmi also adds structured data for your business, blog posts, FAQs and breadcrumbs, and works alongside SEO plugins such as Yoast SEO and Rank Math. Titles and meta descriptions are set in your SEO plugin. See Business & SEO.

Are Urmi pages accessible?

Urmi helps: the editor's Checks panel finds missing alt text, empty links and buttons, heading problems, low contrast and more. See Accessibility checks.

Teams and clients

Can clients edit texts without breaking the design?

Yes. Give their role Content only in Settings → Access & roles. They can change texts, images and links, but not add, move or restyle anything. See Roles & access.

Can several people work on the site?

Yes. If two people open the same page, the editor warns that someone else is editing it. You can leave notes on elements for each other, and every save is kept in the page's history.

Sites and content

Can I build a multilingual site?

Yes, with WPML or Polylang. See Multilingual.

How do I move a site to another server or reuse a design?

Export a site kit and import it on the other site. To reuse single templates, export them from the Theme Builder. See Export & import templates.

Where are my pages stored?

In your WordPress database, like any other page. Urmi also keeps a plain HTML copy of each page's content, which is what shows if Urmi is ever deactivated.
